MCP Client Setup

Connect Cursor

Signvoy is a remote MCP server, so Cursor needs one entry in mcp.json and nothing installed locally. No npm package, no runtime to keep updated, no key to store.

Prerequisites

  • A Signvoy account with at least one published template.
  • Cursor with MCP support (Settings → MCP).

Add the server

1. Open MCP settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP and choose to add a new server. That opens your mcp.json.

2. Add the Signvoy entry

~/.cursor/mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "signvoy": {
      "url": "https://api.signvoy.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

3. Authenticate

Cursor will show the server as needing authentication. Click its login control — a browser opens, you sign in to Signvoy, approve the connection, and Cursor stores the token. The server should then show as connected with its tools listed.

The tool count Cursor reports should match the tool reference. A lower number usually means the connection dropped partway through discovery — toggle the server off and on.

Project vs global config

Cursor reads MCP config from two places, and for Signvoy the choice matters more than it might seem:

  • ~/.cursor/mcp.json — global, available in every project. Recommended for Signvoy. Signing contracts is an account-level capability, not a property of one repository.
  • .cursor/mcp.json — project-scoped, and usually committed to git. Fine if your whole team should have the server available, but it means teammates see a signing tool in every session whether they want it or not.
The config holds no credential — just a URL — so committing it leaks nothing. Each teammate still completes their own consent and gets their own grant against their own workspace. Prefer global config for scope reasons, not secrecy.

Verify the connection

Ask for something read-only in the chat pane:

prompt
List my Signvoy templates and tell me which ones are published.

Cursor should call signvoy_list_templates and report which templates have hasPublishedVersion: true. Only those can create documents.

Editor workflows

Having signing available inside the editor is most useful when contract state is adjacent to code you are already working on.

prompts
# Check on a customer while wiring up their integration
Has Acme signed their MSA yet? If someone is still pending, tell me who.

# Generate an embedded signing link to test your own integration
Create a signing link for the pending recipient on the most recent sent
document, so I can test the embed flow locally.

# Reconcile what your webhook handler saw against Signvoy's own record
Show me the audit trail for document <id> so I can compare it with the
webhook events my handler logged.
Careful with agent auto-run. If you allow Cursor to run tools without approval, a signing tool is in scope for that. Keep signvoy_send_document and signvoy_void_document behind manual confirmation.

FAQ

Can Cursor send documents for e-signature?

Yes. With the Signvoy MCP server configured, Cursor's agent can create a document from one of your templates, show you a review link, and send it for signature after you confirm — all from the chat pane.

Should I use project or global MCP config in Cursor?

Use global (~/.cursor/mcp.json) for Signvoy. Signing contracts is an account-level capability rather than something specific to one repository, and a project-level .cursor/mcp.json is usually committed to git, which spreads the config to teammates who may not want it.

Is it safe to commit .cursor/mcp.json with Signvoy in it?

The config itself contains no secret — only the server URL — so committing it leaks nothing. Each teammate who uses it still has to complete their own OAuth consent and gets their own grant scoped to their own workspace. The reason to prefer global config is scope, not secrecy.

Why does Cursor show the Signvoy server as needing authentication?

That is the expected first state. Cursor discovers the authorization server from Signvoy's 401 response, registers itself, then opens a browser for consent. Click the login or authenticate control next to the server in Cursor's MCP settings to start it.
